Reskinning a gear knob.

OK, so I bought a second hand one of these:

And set about removing the leather and clasp. The trick? Boiling water. Everything just peels off.



I've ordered a new cover, but apparently it just slips on.
The emblem double sided tape slipped off too, so I just polished it up and applied new tape.

After a lot of to-ing and fro-ing and, well, procrastination, I covered my knob today (yeah, I know, I know...) and completed this chapter of the book. I actually had someone create a cover for me, and they totally botched it. In fact, they broke the knob. So, after stripping the cover off and aralditing the knob back together, today I recovered it. I used their 'rear cover', and glued that in place, then applied my own alcantara on the front lower portion for a bit of a colour and texture break. Overall, very happy with the result, and as it is weighted, feels nice to use. Also, me being me, means it's unique. I like that bit....
