Reset every time from cold start!

Hi All,

Was wondering if anyone can help. I took out my sat nav dvd a couple of weeks ago just to see what year maps i have. Ever since then every time i start the car from a cold start the satnav folds down then back up but seems to reset everything, the date and clock needs to be reset and it resets my current mileage (not the actual car mileage), mph and mpg. This also happened about half an hour ago when i went to pick a mate up from the station, i was early so only turned the engine off but still had the ignition on so i could listen to some music. As soon as i started the car same thing happened again, sat nav closes and opens and everything is reset.

Does anyone know the cause of this? Is the battery on it's way out and i have to change it or is it something else. If anyone can help i would be very grateful as i'd rather have this issue sorted out before it gets worse.

your battery is failing.... change asap.

it plays havoc with these cars when they start to fail....... i have pretty much every light on the dash plus the clocks and everything resetting.

Thanks Beedub you're a start. I'm guessing i can grab a battery from eurocarparts and do a straight swap with no problems?
 
I've had the Bosch S5 in mines for the last 4yrs and it hasn't missed a beat! That's with my car only being driven at weekends.

Think it cost around £80 at the time online
 
I've been having a search and AGM batteries seems to be the recommended one to go for. Not sure which is best really. I managed to get a picture of the labeling on my current battery and it's not branded but 70Ah and 760A, 120RC and 760CCA.

Should i be replacing it with like for like?
 
I think AGM battery's are for more modern cars mate they are also more expensive and don't last as long. I would get a Bosch as recommended :)

i always stick with the AGM item..... they last a long time and i like the oem fitment on a battery,.....
 
I've got a Bosch S6 AGM, I would imagine that would be considered OEM although is quite high on price, paid £120 for mine.

Scrap that comment mate i was wrong, i was going off how it worked on my old 123d. The 1 series had stop start technology and had an AGM battery fitted as standard, but when it needed to be replaced it had to go to BMW or an Indy to be recoded to the car which is why i said they were more expensive.
I have read this isn’t the case with the Z4m and that they do not need to be recoded so maybe the AGM would be the better option :)

I can only go on my own experience but I know there are quite a few M users using Bosch S5 batterys with no issues. I fitted mines over 4 years ago to replace the original battery and I've had zero issues since.

It does the job.
 
Thanks guys, i've gone for the S5 will let you know how i get on. The car is used everyday so i'm hoping it won't be a problem.

I don't think thats a bad price for a 5 year guarantee tbh!

It's not a bad price but I paid under £80 over four years ago for a bosch s5 from carbatteriesonline.
I had a look and they have none in stock so not sure what the going rate is these days
