Replacing top latch motor

I bought my z4 with a non functioning top and latches that apparently were hard to close. I bought replacement gears and disconnected the motor and used a drill on the old motor spline to open the latches. I found used latches on eBay that are smooth and operate easily. I put the new brass gears in the motor and now I can only get the latches to close but the motor doesn’t work when I press open. I tested the motor prior to installing it by connecting the blue power plug and it opened and it spun in both directions, now it seems to only work to close. Is there any sensor that could be faulty ? The passenger side window regulator is broken, but I didn’t think that would stop the motor from working to open? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Ah, yes- I thought I had correctly positioned it on the top (attached with small torx bolts) to the top of the claw (left side claw when sitting in the car) are you saying I haven’t got it attached properly and need to re seat it?

Do you get any lights on the switches? If the boot tray is up or the microswitch not made then the roof will go up and lock shut but will not do anything if you try to open it. Just an amber light.
