Replacing the engine belts.

Was told by my indy last service that the auxillary belt needed changing as it was perished.

Is it just the one belt on the M54? Also, do I just need to change the belt or should I change the pulley at the same time?

Basically, what do I need to change it/them? cheers.

Its two belts, one auxillary and one AC, unless the pulleys are noisy i would just change the belts, its an easy job

I also need to do the same. I've bought the belts now, just need to find time to fit them!

Toe-side, thanks for the guide.

Andrew.

Thanks for the guide, toe side. Appreciate that

Is it worth doing the air con belt? I'm guessing both belts are originals, 100k miles old now.

I thought the belt was recommended to be changed every 2 years? Whilst it would probably be ok for more, they are not that expensive from bmw £30 ish

Yeah i got a price from bmminiparts earlier today. £23.28+ VAT for the auxillary belt and £13.97+ VAT for the aircon belt. Cheap enough.

Will buy both definitely

I did both belts on the weekend as the main belt had very visible cracks in it. The ac belt not so bad but a its so cheap and you need to take it off anyway I did both at the same time. Very easy with loads of access from underneath with the tray removed. Bought my parts from euro car parts and they were super cheap.

Yes Dayco. I bought them from carpartsforless which is just eurocarparts. Dayco supply to OEM's so you are just paying BMW tax for the sake of it. Quality wise they are the same.

Good stuff, you've just saved me 20 quid :D I ordered a set of coils from carparts4less today, looks like i'll be placing another order now 8)

Just an update to this. Fitted them today. Quite simple to do. I recommend 2 people, one to hold the tension and fit the belts from below one to fit the belts from above. Makes the job a lot easier.
