Replacing Rear RFT's Only ?

Here we go again !, after 14,000 miles the my rear bridgestone RFT's are working the DSC into overtime :evil: so a question ?. Can I just replace the rears to NON - RFT's while keeping the fronts for a few more miles? ......and what is the latest opinion on the best replacement (I have a staggered set up with 255/35/18 on the rears so can't swap).

On my last E60 I changed all RFT's to Pirelli P Zeros and felt a loss in sharpness especially with turn in, but the RFT's on the Z4 with the sports set up are too skittist over bumps and unforgiving on british roads

Just my opinion, but I personally wouldn't mix RFTs and non-RFTs, not for the sake of a few mm of front tread anyway

I'm sure it would not hurt anything to have RFT's on the front and non-RFT"s on the back,,,, but I personally would not mix between front and rear :idunno:

I wouldn't do it either. All RFT's or none.

I concur, some have done it with no issues, and for normal driving it may be okay, but for spirited driving or track use, you are mixing a very stiff side wall with a very soft side wall something is going to give. I considered the same, but went with non RFTs all around, i have a set of front RFTs with about 85% - 90% tread left if anyone needs them...

All tires should be of the same type. I make sure all 4 of my tires are of the same make and model. Mixing tires is dangerous.

Get some Goodyear Eagle F1's and you'll be a happy camper..(notice the wider size 265 vs. 255 in rear which I have..)

Thanks guys I think I will bite the bullet & get a full set, I have narrowed the choice down to a set of Goodyear F1's or I might take a punt on the Falken 452's. However the F1's rears (255 or 265's) are on 3 month back order here in the UK with blackcirles.com and mytyres.co.uk don't even stock them , I may have to try the main distributers.

Unless the new ones are out DO NOT BUY GOODYEAR EAGLE F1's... certainly the GSD3's have been discontinued... you will struggle to get replacements if you need them.

They are a great tyre, but you need to be able to get replacements for whatever you get

I also run 265's on the rear and there are no issues at all. However, I have 9" rims on the rear. Also running 235's on the front and it's tight but no rubbing issues on 8" rims.

In the past I've always gone to Discount Tire here in the US for my tire needs. I don't know what's around here in NJ, but does anyone know of a good place to get some F1s when I'm ready for them? WLH, 155, baugelli?

I just got my winter slicks from them. Definitely the preferred place to get tires and almost always the cheapest. I've shopped around NTB, Bridgestone/Firestone, Sears, etc. and TireRackhas the best prices. There's a couple of good local installers not too far from my house that are recommended.
