Replacing gearstick gaiter / removal of centre console

Hi, has anyone replaced the gearstick gaiter. Other than taking the gear knob off, how would you go about it?

Also I am considering changing the vinyl knee pads to leather. As such the centre console would need to come out. Anyone have an idea how to do it?

Gaiter and pads available from the eBay link below. Has anyone used them?

The knee pads just need prizing off carefully from the bottom upwards but the replacement covers look more hassle than they are worth as they need stapling / gluing in place.

Gear gait or needs the bit that the hazard switch is attached to removing I think. Just slides out I think with a bit of lifting and sliding towards the ashtray

For gaitor, as you said remove the gear knob and remove the gaitor.

My knee pads are leather haven't seen any in vinyl! You can take them off without removing the centre console, just be careful not to mark the trim, use a small screw driver (flat head) and prise it out.
