Replacing Automatic Transmission Fluid.

This is the next job on my list.

Shipkiller's write up says I need the following:

1. Seven quarts of BMW or equivalent ATF. (The Spec. is ESSO LT71141)
2. New Transmission Filter (24 34 1 423 376) and Pan Gasket (24 10 1 423 380).

I would appreciate recommendations on what brand of ATF to get and also the best place to get the parts.

I looked at doing it myself but got a quote of £230 from my local auto specialist including the filter and equivalent spec ATF so it may be worth having a look at the options? I certainly noticed the difference afterwards.

Hi guys. I was interested in doing the same until I done a bit of research and lets just say that I learnt it is not as simple as an engine oil change. When doing an oil change it is important clean and replace certain components at this time as is clearly shown here in this write up from another forum. This guy drove to Dortmund in Germany to have service done by ZF who manufacture and develop the auto boxes used in our Z4's. I would personally research and find a good auto box specialist in the UK and approach them. I have also heard that the oil for some boxes needs to enter at right temperature though I am not sure what ones.
