Replaced rooftop engine - roof won't open

Hello everyone!

I've searched the forum but couldn't find a solution to this problem that is making me crazy.

My rooftop engine broke down, so my mechanic replaced it with a brand new one. The rooftop worked for about two days.

When I went to pick up the car from the mechanic, we tried to open the rooftop, but it wouldn't budge. The engine is making a buzzing sound, but nothing moves. It only responds when you manually pull the roof, but it won't open fully on its own.

What could be causing this? Even the local BMW dealer said they've never seen anything like it.

Thanks in advice for the answers!

Did he put the new one back in the same place?
Did he only fill fluid to the ‘+’ mark on the reservoir?
If yes, then when it moves it clears the air out that has got into the pipes. Then the fluid level drops too low to work properly.
It needs to be filled right up with fluid not just to the ‘+’ mark.

Or you have fluid leaking out.

Or the bypass valve on the side of the pump is slightly open.
