Replace Rear Lights

Hi all,

Just back from a weeks' trip in the Lakes (pretty cold but gorgeous as ever :D) and find that I have a hole in my offside rear light :( Don't ask me how it got there as I've no idea :idunno: So I think I will take this opportunity to replace my rear light with some that don't have the orange indicators, but have a couple of questions... Apologies if these have been asked before!

1. Is it easy to do myself? I've replaced the 3rd rear brake light and that was relatively easy but I've not looked at the fittings for the other rear lights...
2. Does anyone know what I need to buy from the stealer? Would I need 'orange' bulbs or do the parts come with bulbs etc?
3. Do I have to go to stealer or?

Any help much appreciated

Thanks

It is easier than changing the 3rd brake light. BMW dealer is one option - that tends to be the kit with the side repeaters and the 3rd brake light. Have a search on the internet. Until the pound plumbed new lows against the euro there was a good value for money German source of various options, including all white.

I too am looking into this option. I went to my BMW parts dept and they've searched the online database and apparently they've been discontinued and there are none in stock anywhere. I find it hard to believe so I went down to a different BMW dealers and was told the same thing!
So I've trawled the internet and can find only two options: Euro spec which has clear repeaters but they are the opposite sides for the reverse light and fog light (which would require rewiring or swapping connections etc... else my reverse light would be red and my rear fog white)
Option two is buy the totally clear sets as seen here - http://64.225.94.154/ShopSite/page73.html However some do not like the look of them.

Option 3 is to fit the new facelift style LED lights but this requires replacing the rear bumper and reprogramming the control module for the lights - This is mega £££ and hassle but if you can afford to then very worthwhile.

Let me know how you get on.

Phoned my dealer and they mentioned no such troubles. Clear indicator ones on order apparently!

Clear ones: £127.66 each side
Orange ones: £117.45 each side

Both + VAT, so total for the clear are £293.62 :o

Ill wait to see what turns up before I hand over any cash though... as I really don't like the ones in your link there...

Just picked them up from the dealer, they are the correct ones.

Bootlegdj They are the correct ones :) They did have to order them in - where from I don't know. The part numbers (from the invoice) are:

B63.21.7.165.729
B63.21.7.165.730

and these match those from realoem
I also purchased the clear side indicators :D

Next to fitting - have to wait a bit as it is raining...

Expensive though as I paid £85 each side from the dealers for my previous Z.
