Removing plate on rear of front disc-

Hi all -is it possible to do this easily?-im asking because when i bought the car it had a bad refurb done-basically spraying the front of the wheel in situ,so i have a light dusting on this curved plate,as im going to grease my brake pipes(as recently discussed on here),while the wheel is off im going to look at doing something with it  -is it too late to rub thinners etc on it or will this remove the black paint thats on the plate aswell?-thanks

It's not coming off without taking the wheelbearing/hub off first.

All you need for that is a suitably big (46mm) socket and torque wrench. You aren't supposed to reuse the wheelbearings but people do.

Assuming it's the same basic design to the E36 which I'm "sure" it is.
