Removing Air Vents... is it possible

Hi, i'm hoping to try fit my AUX lead AGAIN tonite... i tried to feed the lead up through the panel under the air conditioning controls at the weekend, however i nearly broke my wrist :o

On my previous Z4, i removed the air vents and then removed the radio... however i found it very hard to pull the vents out once i had the clips down (highlighted in red below) without marking the surrounding dash

The tutorial below suggests placing a screwdriver between the vents and the surrounding dash (highlighted in blue above)... however i found this marking my dash the last time, no matter how careful i was...

Can anyone suggest a more suitable way of pulling the vents out without breaking or marking anything... thanks in advance...

Yes, strong enough to get it those 3 mm forward after which you use your fingers to lever the rest out.

Don't use a screwdriver for the sides, ever ...

(my old RAC card was stronger, which is what I used).

Ok cool, will try it later... would love to see what they use in the BMW workshop for this kind of work...

A device looking like a credit card actually. I have the retrofit instructions for the satnav and that is exactly what it is.

You could always start with one credit card and then when it has moved out a little bit slide another credit card in behind the existing one to give it more strength.

First time I took mine out I used a row of lolly sticks across the top and it popped out before any of the sticks broke.

Good luck

hahah, yes, that would always work.

Speaking of the devil - what happened to him?

there's a certain technigue to it, last time i removed mine i managed to pul it out with just fingers

Been in and out several times with just fingers, all fits flush. Your not in a hairdressers rag top are you, heard those drivers often bend a nail or are a little limp wristed ;)!!

credit card is the best!! I use it to open all panels in the car now...

as for the fingers - wouldn't you need long girlie fingernails for that??

dead easy use narrow teaspoon handles vents pop out,all I need is the connector cable and facia plate now,oh and replace the aerial and run the cables to the dash.
