Removal of gear surround trim

Hello all,

I have googled and searched the forums but I cant find any info on removing the trim around the gear stick. I recently bought the car and I have what looks like a cigarette burn mark on the auto surround trim which is now bugging me. I have never removed trim before so slightly nervous but can anyone help or point me in the direction of an article which takes me through it?

Push the leather gaiter in towards the knob from each side and it pops out. Lift it up over the knob and pull out the spongy stuff the same way. Then pull up on the trim from the bottom where the hazard button is and work your way round. Just did mine hope that helps!

I just swapped mine last weekend. Click on the link in my signature to see pics. It should be on the last page.

The gear knob is easily removed by putting it into neutral, handbrake on and just yank upwards. I used both hands and made sure my face is not in the trajectory the knob will take when it comes off

The leather boot is just yanked off as well by pulling upwards. Likewise for the trim panel you are referring to. Underneath there are 4 wire connectors that need to be removed before the trim panel can be removed completely.

Did you buy the replacement new for BMW (Just been to the main stealers and its £135!) or second hand?

I am tempted with a second hand, or maybe if i can refurbish mine, its just getting the right colour to spray it.

I bought mine 2nd hand from Japan. My old one I am thinking of wrapping in 5D CF if I ever get about doing it
