Removal of gear knob from AT

Hi all,

Does anyone with the AT know how to remove the stock shift knob? I have to remove it together with the circular trim below so I can slide out the rectangular trim piece below the handbrake.

I wish to flock this rectangular trim piece since mine has some scuff/scratch marks inherited from previous owners :)
 
sit in the passenger seat...grab the bottom of the gearknob with your strongest hand, top with the weaker hand...push up/pull from the bottom, straight up...do not twist...do not press the button in, it takes a fair bit of pressure but will eventually pop off
 
Thanks for this! Will attempt to do so this weekend. Will pad my face and hands so the two shall not meet! :D
 
mine went nowhere near my face...dont try to pull up really hard, its more pushing/persuading up from the bottom if you get my drift....ooh matron :D

Put the roof down, stand with one leg in the passenger foot well and one in the drivers and pull up, use your legs and you wont smack yourself lol

Put the roof down, stand with one leg in the passenger foot well and one in the drivers and pull up, use your legs and you wont smack yourself lol

That sounds like you'll smack yourself in an all together more painful place!! :cry:

Why couldn't BMW just design the gear knob to be screwed in? They must derive pleasure from seeing people with shiners when yanking them knobs off :(
 
Took out the gear knob, changed the gear surround trim and felt-lined the bottom of the storage area below the handbrake.

Easier to remove than expected :thumbsup: No shiners or injuries sustained :D
