Remaps/Chipping the E85?

Has anyone had their E85 remapped or 'chipped'? I'm not too bothered about increasing power on my facelift 2.5 177bhp (I'd have went for a pre-facelift 2.5/2.5Si or 3.0 if I wanted more power) and I'm happy with the poke it already has, but I'm curious to hear if anyone has experience of having their Z4 remapped or chipped?

Superchips claim a power increase from 177 to 194 bhp and a torque increase from 230Nm to 254Nm with the improvement in response, driveability and allegedly improved fuel economy. The cost is £285 inc.

Sounds reasonable, but if anyone has had this done it would be interesting to hear your thoughts?

If you're not bothered about it, why are you asking :poke:

Didn't Superchips go bust (or go into 'voluntary liquidation') in 2020.

They also claim an incredible 23bhp increase for the Z4MC (to 366bhp)...which - to put it bluntly - is a load of molluscs.

Curious more than anything. Just ran a search here on the forums and opinion seems to be divided on remaps/chipping N/A engines.

Try Quantum for your remap if you want to give it a whirl, thousands of dealers over the country so you can always find one fairly local.. you can try it out and draw your own conclusions, if you're not convinced of any benefits you can have it removed and refunded in the first 30 days.

That's interesting to know, cheers!!

And if you do go for it, please feed back your thoughts.

i'll have likely posted this in another thread, but i've never really seen the point in just remapping a naturally aspirated engine... a lot of money for minimal gains. the only time i would remap an N/A car is if i'd considerably changed either the intake or exhaust systems, and needed a remap to fully take advantage of the new air flow.

a turbocharged engine, on the other hand, is definitely worth just doing a remap. previously had a 335i that gained ~60bhp from just a £300 remap, and my daily is a 330d that gained ~50bhp just from a remap.

I remapped my S54 (in an M3) and it was definitely worth doing. The original BMW mapping meant the power tailed off over 7000 RPM but more low RPM torque. The remap made it noticeably more linear with more power at high revs (less at low revs). It made the engine want to go to redline.

...but what you say is probably generally true of a 'normal' normally aspirated engine

NA engines are, in terms of power gains, a waste of money remapping. If however you want to get a bit more response and drivability from the engine then that can usually be achieved fairly well.

As has been said if we are talking snails and gains that's usually an easy yes but with no suck or blow you're not going to get very far.
