Reliability

Yes... been all over Europe & UK, no worries

Yes

But it still needs regular servicing like any car, and things do break or wear out as they are used - sometimes age related sometimes use related.

There are a few usual gotchas with the z4 but none are really terrible.

More reliable than a horse and cart. Less reliable than walking? Longer than a piece of string and greener than red cabbage.

They are like most cars, buy a well maintained one and they are ok,buy one thats been neglected and trouble is just around the corner. The 2.0 ltr ones seem to be more problematic.

One forum member - "CoolZ4" managed over 200k in his zed (233k I *think*).....

Even after that, it was a crash that ended the zed's life, not reliability issues.

i bet most z4s end up bent rather than worn out

Having owned both an e85 and e89 my rosé tinted specs are super clear now. I had quite a few issues with both cars. More than other makes I've owned. Draw your own conclusions. Unlucky or not quite what they're cracked up to be.

I chose my E86 for looks, rarity & just as importantly reliability or more specific affordability of repairs . previously had 2x911 weekenders & a 645Ci with all 3 needing a hefty maintenance budget that far outweighed the 2/3k a year i cover
, sold the 6 & asked my BMW indy guy what he thought of the Z's & his response was enough to convince me ,
his words " based on proven 3 series mechanicals that are routine to fix , parts are pi55 easy to source & never had a major issue with one " " plus you can have a 3.0 petrol that can do 30+mpg & hit 155mph "
get one , they are great cars

Agree with maniac. But they are not bad cars in fact they are great cars. Just not built as well as I expected. But I have never owned a new car until recently. And my zed is ten years old.

I've had mine 18 months and not had any issues. It's been on two European trips and gets used far more regularly than as the weekend toy that I intended cos I love driving it. Like most on here it gets looked after well and I'm hoping it will be going for a while yet.
