Hi all.
Im kind of new on trackdays and my Z4 is has never been there before. :)
Im am using my car as a weekend car and 90% will be driven on normal roads. So I dont want to completly bonkers with my upgrades.
Just wanted som opinoins about what to do first to prepare for further trackdays.

1. What whells are to prefere? I end up with going on 18". I want some forged rims and some good tires and dont know were to start. Any suggestions from you who takes your Z:s to track?
2. I presume that the brakes soon will tell me that they need an upgrade. What is to prefered to use with e89 is model?

This are the first two steps I thought about. Is it right or should I take anything else under considuration before wheels and brakes?

Thanks in advance.

wheels is by the by, im my opinion. far more important to get good tyres on. but for 90% normal road use, you probably wouldnt go for a dedicated track tyre like Nankang NS2R, Zestino Gredge, Toyo R888R, that sort of thing - while they would give great dry grip, they have compromised wet performance and are noisy and harsh for everyday driving.

So i'd probably look at something like goodyear eagle supersports, or maybe Michelin PS4S - which might necessitate being on 19s.

as for brakes, the fronts will take a pounding on track - again, really quality track pads like Pagid RS44, Carbon Lorraine, Performance friction are expensive, and will take heat very well, but can squeal a bit, and dont work as well when cold. so i'd compromise on a slightly better pad, like ferodo DS2500s, or maybe EBC yellows.

only once you've got tyres and brakes sorted would i consider doing anything else like suspension mods or LSDs or anything like that. i've done dozens of great trackdays on cars with just brakes and tyres upgraded.

only other thing i would suggest is a decent alignment - you want maximum negative camber on the front, and i normally pair it with a slightly wider than normal front tyre to give better turn in and more neutral handling - BMWs actually tend to understeer quite a bit when pushing on with staggered tyre sizes - my e85 used to run a 245f, 255r setup which worked really well.

Frankly I'd make sure you have plenty of life left in your tyres and brakes, make sure the brake fluid is fresh and don't do anything else.

Upgrades to the car will simply give the car the ability to produce a better laptime, but if you've never been on track then most all upgrades will all be utterly wasted to start with. Get out there and just enjoy the car as it is to start with. Learn how to drive on track properly, and in so doing learn what you want to upgrade on the car, and do it iteratively as time and funds allow.

FWIW, I would start with the following order for upgrades, once you've done a few trackdays;

1. Alignment
2. Brake Pads
3. Springs & Dampers (or coilovers), and polybushes for the RTAB and Lollipop bushes at the same time if you can.
4. LSD
5. Tyres

Thanks guys.
Concerning Tyres and wheels i think if doing a lot of trackdays would be a second set of wheels. The question is still were to get good rims, preferd forged once that fit The car.
I will give it a try just oem set up Concerning wheels and brakes. My biggest Concerning is to overheat breakings. :fuelfire:
IF so I start with this upgrade and secondary new set of wheels.
Always looning for other opinion and thoughts. Thanks again and drive safe.

The BIGGEST gain from a track day will be gained by

Doing a few laps on your own
Then Have a race driver/instructor sit in with you helping you showing you where and when to brake turn in etc.
Practice on your own
Return to the Race driver/instructor to see if what he/she told you to do, has been applied to your driving

Most of the brake issues are from over use of the brakes as the instructor will point out.
