Reduce Vehicle Excise Duty by 50% for vehicles aged 20 to 39 years

Signed but i`m sure I have done this before not so long ago.

I've also signed this but you are correct 1536Z4. We did this a while ago and it reached the amount for parlament and they said something like 'hard luck'.

The intention is laudable, the proposed policy logical, sensible and fair. However, like some of my early cars, it's a non-starter. A policy that reduces tax revenue (not to mention the profits of car makers/dealers, finance firms/banks etc) will never reach the first hurdle. :cautious:

I'm afraid you're right, the government need many trillions of our hard earned, to spunk about.
Unfortunately, it's not on things like roads though.

I think I signed one a while back as well. AFAIK it was to reduce the 40 year rule to 20. Something to that effect anyway. This one is slightly different, will generate revenue still, and more importantly keep some older cars on the road.

I currently tax and insure an R50 - which, per Anum is probably more than the cost of the car.

These type of petitions are a complete waste of time. They would need over 50% of the electorate for Parliament to take them even semi-seriously; then they would maybe vote and it would still be a NO.
This half a million for it to be heard in the commons is all nonsense. If they ever get to that amount they are 'heard' at midnight on a Friday when only the cleaners are in the house. Then they go in the bin with all the others.

Cynical....or a realist?

Signed and shared, but agree with above sentiment-we have disposable income that that the government can spend far more wisely…..

At least these show the Government that the public are not happy, if they don't get many signatures then the Government dont think there is much of an issue. Ive signed, and yes it won't change but give me a bit of satisfaction

Far to sensible an idea to ever get a look in at parliament.
Not really though is it?
For the past 15 years the UK Government has been giving tax breaks to anyone buying an EV, cos they are going to save the planet (allegedly).
So a few hundred thousand old cars, which generally are more 'polluting' than anything else, are never going to get a reduction in car tax. Quite rightly so if we are trying to be more 'green'.

Always makes me smile that people don't give two shites about the 'environment' when there is potential to save a few quid.

I've not done the maths, but I would suppose that driving older cars is actually more green, given the energy costs to produce an EV, with the global shipping of components, mining battery chemicals and manufacturing. An EV's carbon footprint is already the same as a diesel. The old diesel / fuel cars are already made. So, by scrapping them and buying a new one or new EV does not reduce emissions at all. Keeping older cars on the road might. Not to mention, EVs cannot be recycled yet.

It will never happen, VED likely helps people into newer cars and keep the economy moving too.

Nah, not gonna get any traction. This petition might as well be called 'owners of z4m, 350/370zs and early boxster/caymans unite'

All the v6 mondeos and vectras the highest bands affected are long gone already. I do believe the government would much rather these highest polluting cars weren't around.

Done as well. I am sure the response will be that the government wants to encourage new cars to lesten the impact on the environment, and old cars are the devil re-incarnated or words to that effect
