Recommend new battery (and weird noise)

Ok, so nearly ready to finally order the battery. One final question about vents.

I emailed Tanya batteries about the Varta E39 battery referenced at the beginning of this thread to check if the vent was in the same place.

They said that because it is a “VRLA AGM” battery that it doesn’t need a vent.

Is this true? Do you just leave the pipe disconnected?

Yes Yes

Some cars had a vent tube for non AGM batteries and some paranoid battery manufacturers do fit a vent tube even to AGM but it’s not common..

Hi Black dog. I ordered this....E39 Varta Start-Stop Plus 096 AGM Car Battery 12V 70Ah (570901076), is that the same one?

Its got a vent.

Yes, thats the one. Did you connect it (is it in the same place)?

I guess if its there, then plug it in, but if not then just leave it off.

Looking for a replacement battery for my 06 Z4MR - so rather than starting a new thread, thought I'd post here.

Does anyone have experience of MIDAC batteries?

I'm looking at :-

I don’t think you need an agm battery for an e85?

Rob,

Generally you can have AGM batteries on cars for lots of good reasons that does not mandate them from car based technologies such as stop/start and brake related energy regeneration...

So an AGM on a car like the E85 will offer better starting, longer term reliability etc

Yeah, i knew all that stuff but surprised an e85 came fitted with one from the factory? I’m pretty sure my 3.0si never had one :?

Often BMW fits various versions in various models in various markets at various times..

Just cause one car hasn’t got it fitted is no guarantee that others are also not fitted.. :tumbleweed:

Being OCD real.oem is your friend in these matters..

That's interesting as my MC doesn't get used too frequently, especially not since March.

So far the battery has managed to hold charge OK for over 3 weeks, but when the time comes for a replacement AGM may be a better option (I've not looked to see what it has now).

Mr. Tidy..the one key caveat is AGM batteries don’t like lots of engine bay heat..if they are in the engine bay they are usually protected from excessive heat by ventilation and /or shielding.

I assume that it is listed as an option that’s the case or it’s in the boot?

Yes, on 3.0Sis it's in the boot floor but on the Ms it's actually in the boot because of the 2nd back-box!
