Recommend me a laptop

I'm looking for a cheap laptop solution.

Must be capable of:

- Reason music production
- Disc drive
- At least 500mb HD and 4gb RAM
- 13"
- Fairly quick
- Not too heavy

If anybody has one for sale also let me know. By the way, I don't want to buy a new Macbook and am heading more towards PC unless I can pick up a cheap circa 2010/11 Unibody Macbook.

I've had countless Mac's for the last 15 years. Surely there's a PC out there that works well right?!
 
I have a dell xps 13", they are sexy and rather good. Correct me if i'm wrong but you might struggle finding a 13" with a disk drive. Rare thing these days for that size
 
Yes, disk drive will be a USB jobby I am afraid unless you go for the brick models like I have (Lenovo).
 
Cheers fellas. Dell XPS looks pricey at Mac levels.

Why not remove windows all together and put something like Ubuntu Linux on it. That way you could get something with perhaps a lower spec. I run it on a dual core Dell Vostro with 2Gb RAM and an SSD and its like lightening. Very reliable as well not had a crash in about 4 months :D

Their stock is constantly changing but they are a genuine outfit and offer 6 months warranty on all their sales.
 
whilst not so cheap i can wholey recomend novotech. this i7 ive got is brill but i could be specc'd lower to make it less expensive. i would say if you can get a SSD. her indoors has 2 laptops, exactly same spec/age but one has an ssd and is visibly faster.
 
At the start of the year i replaced my macbook pro with a lenovo yoga 2 pro.

The gimmick hinge is handy as a tent on the beach!

I have a couple of Samsung Q70's which have been going strong for 4 and 6 years respectively. I also have a R530 which is 4 years without problems. I think Samsung do some lovely designs and seem reasonably priced in the market.

Still don't get this fascination the general public have with Mac. Overpriced pieces of bling and no more use than a chocolate teapot unless you happen to be in design or print.

I spoke to a typical Mac user the other day and asked why she had a iPad as opposed to a regular tablet. Her answer, I can't speak to my other friends who have iPads. Of course you can dear. You use Skype. You can't use Facetime. She looked at me incredulously, I kid you not :roll:
 
I have just purchased one of these http://www.pcspecialist.co.uk/notebooks/optimusV-13/ with the QHD+ panel option (a thing of beauty!). I went for top spec on everything, but you can spec one up that is pretty decent for not a lot.

Had mine a week and I am really pleased with it.

Absolute tosh!

Yes, they are overpriced in comparison to equivalent pc hardware, but they are well built and well designed. My MBP is a 2009 model and still going strong. I've had plenty of Windows machines in the past and none have lasted as well.

This is my opinion of course...I don't work in design or print, and mine hasn't melted like a chocolate teapot would.

It is down to personal choice however.
 
Windows man for 20 years (and a pro to boot), but I find for every day use a Mac just does what it says on the tin.
 
On the off chance... If anyone is upgrading to a MacBook Pro from an Air and are looking to sell their MacBook Air.... Let me know!

I work with XP & Win7 every day, but for home, I much prefer my Mac. However, it is mainly leisure activities, i.e. email, surfing, photo editing etc that I do at home, but I've done the same on PC/Laptop and still prefer my Mac!
