I'm in the market for a decent Clay bar kit. Could you seasoned clay bar users point me in the right direction please? P.S Im a Clay bar Virgin.

I used an Autoglym clay kit as my first and it's very good, but I am there's some other members who have more experience .

I went with the Turtlewax clay kit which was on offer at Halfords at the time, it worked well was easy to use and made a noticeable difference lifting loads of brown grime leaving a really smooth finish. But as a clay-bar virgin myself I don't know if it's the best or not.

Clay bar cloths seem to be getting good reviews from forumites, never used one myself though.

Ive used bars and mits previously but I tried some tar and iron removers the other day and was very impressed how clean the paintwork was afterwards. Almost questioned if ineed to clay at all ?

As a clay bar virgin I used this as well. Very happy with the results.

There seems to be a lot of support on the forum for clay mitts.

I use dodo juice clay bars and their born slippy spray. Works a treat.

I've never been too sure about the clay cloths but after a few good reviews I may have to try one.

If you've never used one before I'd point you in the direction of a clay mitt/clay cloth.

3 reasons -

Speed - You'll be able to clay mitt the car in a 1/4 of the time it takes to do it with a clay bar

Marring - Less chance of marring your paint with a clay mitt especially as it's your 1st go

Dropping the Clay Bar - You will drop a clay bar and when you do, it's ruined and needs chucking. Drop the clay mitt and you can just rinse it off with soapy water and away you go again.

Another tip is to decontaminate the paintwork as best you can first off with an iron contaminate product such as BH Korrosol or similar and a Tar remover like AG Tardis or similar before using the clay bar/mitt (whichever way you go).

I used the Farecla clay mitt today was nice and easy much prefer it to clay bar and was quicker as well

Save a fortune and go to poundstretcher etc, bluetac is virtually identical.

Will have to try bluetac for all the hard to get into spots, for me though a £12 clay mitt was a bargain I done my car in
40 mins which meant I got into the pub an hour earlier on saturday :D
