recomended OBD software?

Any recommendations for OBD software, ideally Windows and ideally free!

I recently tried ForScan (Yes there is no D) for my Focus and it's pretty good at giving decent data on fault codes.

Cheers.

Bmw software is free, just buy cable that cost £20 and it will come with it. Best want you can get.

So googling turned up the INPA software. I tried a few places to download this but links are either dead or dodgy. Anyone know where it's available from that's safe?

You can get latest on Russian forums, just search on google.ru, also vag obd cable not gonna work on bmw.

In the current climate of russian-sourced hacking, that's quite possibly the most inappropriate and dangerous piece of advice you could possibly give!
OP; if you're new to using PC-based software I would avoid this route at all costs. All of the OBD dongles and cables I have purchased recently have come with their own softtware, and on scanning all have had some form of keylogger, trojan, rootkit embedded.
Even the allegedly 'straight' PAsoft 'BMW Scanner' software I got hold of recently had been recoded with a trojan embedded.
I would suggest that if you don't know your way around virus scanners, rootkit scanners etc to avoid at all costs trying to get hold of software unless purchased via a legitimate seller.
I finally decided on Carly as I managed to get hold of a dongle from forum member Garry quite cheap. If it's worth anything to you to know it's a very competent diagnostics scanner and is also capable of coding as well as live parameter monitoring.

Well my anti-virus went nuts when I tried a download from one russian site, I decided to see if anyone had a 'clean' copy!

(I wasn't wearing my tinfoil hat at the time though, but I did have my chicken wire cardigan on...)
