Recent 0-60mph experience

am new here and recently got my Z4MR on Monday afternoon and love it to bits. Audaciously, i decided to experiment the 0-60mph claim last night on a nice patch of new tarmac and got 4.9s in my first run in sports mode. I started with dumping the clutch at 3000rpm and it just went like a rocketship. I am not sure whether i used up all the revs on each gear or not as the whole thing happened too fast and i am too busy making sure i don't end up backwards. However, my 2nd attempt did not improve and dropped to 5.4s as i cock up the start. initially, when i had the foot down, i can feel the whole car sliding around under me but it feels absolutely controllable and i managed to keep the car pointing in the direction i want.

what is your experience of doing 0-60 pick-up? Has anyone managed a good time with dsc off? My car is totally stock and I am sure there is still scope for improvement on the 4.9s i've got.

Practising for a traffic light grand prix with the local chavs?

For starters, too much 'experimenting' does terrible damage to your clutch, flywheel, gearbox, diff and even tyres! Sensible side out of the way, the second attempt you just got far too much wheelspin. Use less revs or hold the clutch at biting point for longer. Never use DSC as itll pull the power as soon as a wheel slips...

Also if youre timing with a stopwatch/speedo, your numbers will be too optimistic... Youll need to be doing 64-65mph on the speedo to be doing 60mph in reality. BMW probably launched the car in 2nd gear to get their times, which i would suggest you dont do!

I use the "///M Meter" app on my iphone to measure the time and the MPH should be pretty accurate as I understand it uses the GPS. If you haven't got it you should as its quite fun and useful.

well Ed, i didn't buy the car to drive it like a ford focus. i suppose the temptation is too high even though I don't normally drag from traffic lights and with a very enthusiastic passenger by side at that time, the urge to experiment is unbearable. I can assure you its not a week in week out kind of thing.

The road is empty and is a well lit side road near my house with very delicious new tarmac just laid by Southwark courtesy of the extortionate council taxes. I think the combination of a very recent oil service, brand new tarmac and new set of Contis did help a bit with the times.

Next thing i need to experience with the car is driving it over some proper country roads. Its down to chichester for me next weekend. anyone else interested?
