Mate i've made some custom actions in PhotoShop to apply various fill and adjustment layers. I simply apply these to the images and tweak the levels. I personally love the desaturated backgrounds in automotive photography as it draws emphasis to the car and not the background so much.

You can start by adding a hue/saturation adjustment layer in PS, then adjust the overall image saturation to the level you require. Then using the paint brush tool simply paint through the layer to expose the colour of the layer behind it. On PC the shortcut is X to switch between the foreground and background brush palette, black will paint the colour, white will desaturate and return the layer to the preset level.

Check out one of my instagram buddies photos, John Zhang (1013mm) he's an offical Canibeat photographer and IMHO one of the best, if not the best automotive photographers around. His desaturated photos are second to none. His images are fresh 'new school'. His photography is a great inspiration and has helped me to find my own style. http://www.canibeat.com/tag/john-zhang/

Keep the Beyonce's and JLo's coming guys :D

Just tried that, works well. I'll have to play around with it a little more to see what else I can get from it. Perhaps works better on a colour car as on black, the saturation effect doesn't give the impact it does on blue...

ahhhhh - makes sense. Love your zed - looks bad aaasss!

Mine is having the high gloss grilles fitted Thursday, but think I will keep the silver alloys for a while.
