One of a number of projects to sort out is the missing plastic cover for the red flashing LED on the interior mirror.

- can I buy a single lens to cover it or do I need a whole LED unit and/or mirror?

iIRC someone bought a mirror off an older BMW model off eBay, and just replaced the dome cover....

Sorry, cant resist. Red or grey?
Awww noooooooooooooo :)

I'm obviously walking in to something I don't understand....

..... does it matter! :D

 sorry Dog Biscuit. Its a bit like a which came first question. Lots of different veiws on whether its grey for non-Ms and red for everything else or vice versa etc. Very boring but your post made me smile after a long day and I really couldnt resist! Hope you get it sorted mate. Should be an easy and cheap part number replacement.

You can't buy the "clown nose" from BMW. It's the whole mirror or nothing and you know what they cost.

I ended up buying a complete mirror for an e46, from a guy on eBay for £15 delivered. Ripped the mirror apart to get the nose out intacto and then found it's a quarter turn to slot it back into the Z.

If I was being OCD I believe the e46 nose sits a bit lower than the original part but you don't notice and it's much better than having just a skinny bulb showing.

There you go, knew someone had done that. Happy now that my memories still intact despite old age :D

Thanks folks, appreciate that. Spoke to BMW and they did indeed say "new mirror at £300-400".

Time to go-a-shopping for an old mirror then.... :)

If you have no luck with eBay then try breakers - either online of nearby.

I fitted a RED clown nose from a E46 mirror and it's not a perfect fit.

I had to force it into my mirror and sits at a very slight angle.

It's better than nothing though.

Old mirror arrived and removed the red nose. Not a precise fit with the latches, but it fits and catches in place well enough. It's definitely red!
