Rear Tyres too wide?

Hi,
Some advice please. Also ref to some other of my links. I have a 2004, 2.2 Z4, originally fitted with 16" wheels. To give it a new look, I bought a set of used "M" series wheels, fitted new Falken 452s. 18/40/225 on the front. 18/35/255 on the rear. I fitted them to check this morning, as I want to get the bad weather out of the way first. However I noticed that the rears stick out about 1/4 " - 3/8" past the body work. is this OK?

A few people run M wheels on non M's.

I dont particularly like the offset as like you said it protrudes too far past the arches... however they no-one has said they have failed an MOT yet so you'll be ok!

I think "chris" even has his lowered on eibachs... so doubt you'll get any rubbing even on stock suspension. Also you have the correct size tyres for you car - some keep them on the taller M spec tyres even.

Thanks,
My best bet is to put them on again and check as you said at an MOT station. I checked with BMW about the tyre sizes, they Quoted "as per the sticker" in the driver door pillar. As such, I have fitted the size tyres per wheel as stated on the sticker. However, I did not think they would protude. I hope there is not any rubbing.

Potential MOT failure.

So long as the tread is under the arch it's legal, the wheel can stick out. ( at least that's my understanding of it)
I personally prefer it when the wheel lines up with the edge of the body.

The rear offset on a 9'' M wheel is 30. This means the rear wheel will protrude 26mm more than the stock wheels.
I have 9.5'' rears with an offset of 35 which means the rears protrude 28mm more than stock, as do others on this forum, gookah for one.
They are spot on with no problems. My car has been mot'd since fitting them without a mention.
Take no notice of the doom and gloom merchants just enjoy your Zed with those wheels.
