Rear Side Light Problem mmmm???

Hi Guys

I noticed over the last week that my rear side light passenger side "the three strip lights" is not all lighting up (been checking at the start and end of each trip)?

Most of the time it's fine but it has intermitently cut down to a very dim strip just one bar, so is sort of still on but just one bar.

I took the cluster out and notice there does not seem to be a bulb I can just replace like the other bulbs everything else is fine ???? does anyone know how these work?? Is it a blub failure or a lose connection ?

I have checked the wire plug connector all seems fine :?

Advance would be appericate , am a little stuck on what to do

 aaahhh rubbish this was my thoughts as when I look at the unit it looked sealed.... new rear light it is then. Anyone know what the costs are for a replacment, thanks Ranski for the input

I didnt want to mention it, as it would seem as if i was pushing for a sell, especially as i mentioned Paza may need a new unit :?

check the connector pins on the back of the light have not gone rusty due to a bit of water getting down the back.... Bit of sandpaper on the pins may do the trick!

Thanks mate I will have a real good look at the weekend could be some quality advice

If it is on the trunk lid, check the wires leading into the trunk from the main body. I had trouble with my brake lights and trunk now opening with remote and it turned out to be the wires breaking.

Interesting update:

I spoke to Bmw today by chance to price up for a new light, and they advised me that there is a 16wat bulb that lights the 3 led strip within the light and it can be replaced he said its much higher watt than all the other and seem to be the replacement, they said its £5.61 + vat.

Now when I took the light out I did not see anything that showed a "push fit bulb as described by them on the phone. Is there a diagram page of the lights on line?

Would be great if there is? save me a few quid indeed

Thanks in advance

I have replaced the 3rd brake light and never did see a push in bulb. They may be mistaken and think its a different light you are talking about.

I think I made it clear it was the rear light unit and was the side light so hopefully he was on track, took my reg etc and I disscussed that all the other bulbs were fine just this one. He explained is was not common for them to fail but they do carry them in stock.

To be fair it would be a right con , if you side light failed and you had to replace the whole light unit, ... have to watch this space may even nip it down to them to look at...

Think I will have another look tonight :|

if memory serves right, there is another bulb holder for the LED stripe (small yellowish in colour?) but it didnt want to budge when i tried to open it

Interesting , he suggested it was a push fitment , so maybe a bit tricky to get out maybe locks in or something. I reckon I take it to them and play dumb about fitting it, got to be cheaper than replacing the whole unit.. that and I have been looking daily for 3 weeks for a replacment and no joy!

Other than your old one that went off to Finland!! , I can see why now theres a shortage!, even ebay.de want around 150-170 for a replacment.

if it doesnt work out, connect gmwparts on ebay. I bought my set of rear facelifts for £140 inc postage, it appeared he could get more...

Thanks Ranski , I have dropped him an email so hopefully he will get back. I will update regarding this could be useful for someone in the future, what ever the out come :D or

Hi Guys!!

Newby here. I have found I seem to have the same problem. I was wondering what you managed to get sorted??

Am I going to have to invest in a new rear light unit? Or, is as simple of replacing an Led?

Thanks in advance,

Clark
