Rear shock replacement

I'm trying to remove the lower bolt on my offside rear shock but it just doesn't seem to want to budge, nearside was tight but I did get it moving eventually, I've used copious amounts of plusgas a breaker bar and an impact gun but it still seems pretty firm, I'm gonna try heat next but need to protect the brake flexi, also is heat a good idea next to a gas shock? although if its like the nearside shock the gas is long gone

What's the likelihood this bolt is going to snap? I have replacements and they look like pretty strong bolts that would probably be a nightmare to drill out.

Thoughts appreciated on this

Sounds counterintuitive but try tightening it first, that can often crack the corrosion between the bolt and the hub.

Heat will do it. Don't worry about the shock but be careful around the brake line.

Thanks for the help, I've tried tightening it but feels like the bolt is going to snap and my impact gun only goes to 400nm.

I'm planning on putting a plumbers heat shield type mat around the brake line to perfect it from any heat

Heat did the trick, blow torch either end of the bolt for 30 seconds then sprayed plusgas on the threads and it broke free without much force required, I think without any heat the bolt would have possibly snapped with a breaker bar.

Out of interest my new shock mounts came with nuts and washers but they aren't locking nuts like the original bmw ones is this right?

I'd be tempted to just got to BMW and get the correct nuts.

07119905374 - they're 90p each.

From what I've read I think the original bmw nuts are reuseable, real realoem only says the lower bolt and top shock nut need changing,

The original nuts appear to have some sort of deformed thread at the top of the nut that locks it in place, if I'm correct they are reuseable
