......every time I put it in reverse, even when there is no obstruction. Anyone experienced this and how did you fix it please?

Had a similar problem on my old 3 series it was a faulty sensor the problem was caused by the paint starting to flake another common cause is water getting in. Try and find someone on the forum who has inpa on a laptop near to where you live and they should be able to find the faulty sensor or the other cause is the controller its mounted on the offside of the boot under the trim easy to get at. Depending on the year of your zed they are different part numbers but I have a early model (2003-2005) controlller should you need one

I read somewhere on here that you put the car in reverse (engine off) and you listen for the sensors to click.

Yep, the clicking is a good indicator to find which one is faulty.

Mine too started doing this and I did the listening to the sensor test and one of mine didn't click . I have noticed that some days they work and some days they have a mind of their own and bleep when nothing around . I think moisture is getting in the faulty one. I will change this when I get chance but I think it is a bumper off job to change one although I did read an old thread where you may be able to get to them by removing a rear light

The bumper does need to come off to get at the sensors but it is an easy job there are 3 plastic fixings on both the wheel arches and 4 bolts on the under of the car
i have got replacement sensors from ebay for £10 and had them colour coated by my local spray shop

I have a similar issue with my sensors, a long beep when I put her in to reverse but no clicking from any of the sensors. I tried INPA but couldn't find a fault, mind you its all in German and I'm all in English!
At the moment I'm resigned to living with the beep. :headbang:

you can install inpa in english a lot of the problems are caused with dirty connectors on the sensors themselves trouble is to get at them its a bumper off job but it is relatively easy to remove the bumper
