Rear light units

My rear light units don't seem to be fitted all that well - the gaps between the light unit and the adjacent panels are quite big, and I can see the white plastic parts of the back of the light.

Is it possible to adjust the position/fitment of the light? And if so, how?
 
The light only have about 1mm of adjustment iirc. Mine would only go in the same position they came out. So have you got some trim missing?
