Rear Light Problem With my brand new 2005 Z4

Hi All,

Long time listener, first time caller. Great site by the way!

We have just become the proud owners of our first Z4!! :D

We have the common problem of having one tail light (Passenger side) being dimmer than the other.
Although this has been mentioned a couple of times on here, I can't find any part numbers or photo's of how to fix it.

I followed a fix from E46 fanatics which didn't work (link below)

Is there anyone on here who has had/cured this problem?

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Steve :)

Welcome to the Forum - and before anyone else comments put an entry in the Newbie section with some phots of your Zed.

As for your problem several things can cause this:

*A failing filament in the lamp on the less bright side
*Different manufacturers lamps in either side (yes they vary in intensity from different manufacturers) - just change them over and see if the same thing happens
*A bad earth connection to the 'dim' lamp (check all connections and clean where neccessary - quick spray of WD40 in the connector or similar can often resolve the problem) - if you have a 'meter' you can check the voltage across the terminals to see exactly where the problem is.

Go for the easy fix first - changing lamps over etc then a clean of connections if the change makes no difference.

Hope this helps.

I'm someone who'd previously posted about one lamp being dimmer than the other, but mine was due to a crap connection using scotch-locs when doing the full-circle brake light mod (search will bring it up). When I reverted my wires back to standard and changed the bulbs it was fine. Basically, first step would be to replace BOTH rear bulbs.

HTH.

P.S. Welcome to the forum :)

HI 8)

I've also suffered the same problem, I changed the bulbs for both of the rear lights and still the problem existed.

Then the full cluster on the o/s packed up and apparently my earth bar as cracked.

It's repairable but I've picked up two 2nd hand rear cluster for £50 on Ebay :)

Hope this helps.
