Rear High Brake Tail Lights... Central Glovebox...

Just got my car back from the garage (it was a non starter) and realised I had two other problems...

Firstly, the rear high brake tail light has a few leds/bulbs?! that are not working.
I just wondered if you can individually change the bulbs or does the whole bar of lights need to be changed.
Can anyone tell me the part number for the lights? Or if you can change individual bulbs then the type of bulbs I need?
Is it hard to change yourself?

Secondly, the motor that works in the central glovebox between the seats has decided to give in. Has anyone had experience of this?
Does anyone know the part number for this motor that locks the central glovebox?
Is this hard to change too?

Anyway, I'm a newbie. Have been browsing this forums for a long time but never posted anything until joining today.... so Hi!!!
Hoping that some of you Z4 geniuses can help!

CJ10 has added bulbs to both ends of his rear centre brake light, and I'm sure you could change the bulbs if you know what to replace them with and are good with a soldering iron.

For the other motor use http://www.realoem.com to find the part numbers.

Hi Rich

The LED's are on a printed circuit board that appears to miss the last 3 reflectors on each end. Have you lost some in the centre section?
I'd say close to impossible to solder new one's in and even assuming you could obtain the correct ones. (I have a unused red board if you feel competent to swap like for like)

Can't help on the lock. Assume it's just a straight bolt in with 2 or 3 torx, but sr has pointed you to the parts bible to do some searching.

Go here for prices once you have the part number:

Like others no idea about the glovebox...

the 3rd brake light unit itself is pretty easy to fit - provided you can reach the nuts.

Part nos:

Red: 63256917378
Clear: 63256930246

Taken from Realoem

I've had the central storage box problem.

It's really easy to remove and I still haven't got round to replacing it since I removed it last summer

Hey guys,

Cheers for all your help! Think I'll have to buy the whole 3rd brake light assembly from my local dealer then. Looks easy enough to fit!

With regards to the central glovebox, the motor that is used to drive the lock has now been discontinued for the E85 2003. Think I might have to just keep it open. :)

The solenoid for the central glovebox is: P/N: 67116915971

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=BT33&mospid=47798&btnr=51_4939&hg=51&fg=35

Number 18 in the picture...

Part number 67116915971 was superseded by part number 67116944827. The price of the new part is $43.00, over here in the US.

If RealOEM says that the part has been superseded, then 99% of the time, there is a new part number that has been attached, somewhere...

I just to to one of my online parts suppliers like: http://www.trademotion.com/partlocator/index.cfm?siteid=214760
and plug in the old part number. You will get the new part number and a price....

how can they discontinue a part for a 6 year old car! thats madness! surly a 2004 part must fit in its place?

Actually they did not. Think about this for a second.

The part was discontinued because it was updated/modified, so it gets a new part number. The new part (with new number) will work as well or better, last longer etc.

Since your car is newer, I bet if you check the part number on YOUR glove box solenoid, I bet the part number matches the new part number.

Ok guys, thanks for all the help given.

I'm off to buy the parts later today, think I'll be fine with fitting the 3rd brake light... are there any special tools that I need?

With regards to the glovebox motor, has anyone had experience of fitting this themselves? Been looking everywhere for hints but have not come across any information.
