Rear end Quad Conversion Progress.

Just thought I would replace the standard front bumper with the one off a Z4 M.

Doing the prepwork myself to try and keep the respray costs down. Just wish I wasn't so much of a perfectionist, getting all the little marks ,scratches and spiderweb cracking out of original paintwork is going to take a lot longer than I thought.. :?

This is the progress so far:

Don't have pop-up headlight washers and wasn't going to pay the extortionate prices for the covers so I just blanked them off.
Going to attempt to retro-fit some fogs in where the brake vents go too, when I've figured which ones to get..

I was thinking about maybe a set of these :

I if can figure out a way to mount them securely with some sort of grill surround too, to make 'em look nice. :)

Looking good. Know the amount of preparation as I sprayed mine myself.

Have you got the air duct brackets? If you plan on fitting some lights in them you'll need those as otherwise they just wobble around trapped between arch and bumper.

There is a US member who added DRL's so maybe you can take ideas from him

Bumpy

Fog Lights in the Brake Ducts.

I had a face lift bumper with fog lights.
Installing fog lights in the brake ducts is a very easy mod.
Use the wiring that is in place.

I went with LEDs. Stock were halogen H3 bulbs.
There are a lot more lights available now including xenon with halos.

Have fun
Bumpy

I was told that the Z4M bumper wouldn't fit on an E85 (mines a 3.0)....so I bought an E86 bumper instead...

How well does the Z4M bumper fit?

Cheers

It's a straight bolt on if you buy the new undertray and corners. If you keep the original undertray you need to fettle the corners slightly and add a joiner strip from the bottom of the bumper to the leading edge of the tray. Sounds more complex than it is, but dozens of us have made the conversion.

Here's mine as fitted

I hope mine ends up looking as good as yours....
Just been to the bodyshop this morning and shown him my progress, to which he said " Don't waste any more time on that 'cos we will strip it all off back to plastic to get rid of the base coat cracking and re-plastic prime the whole thing......dang it!!!! :headbang:

Never mind, life's not worth living unless you learn something new every day!!!

A bodyshop will never spray on top of assorted old primers, fillers, top coats, etc. as the risk is that at the intersections it will bubble or distort and whatever happens you'll lay the blame on them. You can do it by adding a barrier layer, but more time and cost.

Thanks for the compliment re mine. I prepped and sprayed it myself :)

Not entirely to do with the front end change but a few pics of my latest mods.

I know the boot spoiler isn't to everyone's taste but i like it.

Like the side repeaters, but sorry - it's a ' ' for the spoiler, but if you like it that's all that matters

Food for thought - another treatment of the rear:
Quad exhaust
Quad white spots
CF diffuser (no longer available and heavily modified)
white centre light
CF grey badges

I have noticed the rear spoiler is a bit of "A Marmite Thing" on here CJ10....

Thanks for the comments though, appreciated. Think Dans has done a great job on those side repeaters.

Edited in some photos but you've already posted a reply.

Agree it's marmite and does divide opinion.

Love the side repeaters!

Just need to dremel the white part to half the thickness to complete it.
