Rear emblem latch

Hi all,
The chrome surround on the rear tailgate latch, on my 2007 E86 coupe is coming off, and doesn't look pretty. To get that bit, you have to buy the complete handle assembly. But I don't want to have a separate key. Can the key barrel be changed into the new lock handle, therefore keeping one key for the whole car.

The chrome part looks like it could be part number 9 on the diagram below, but you shouldn't need to get a new lock as thats the part that isn't seen (between the 82mm badge and the supporting ring).

Thanks for the reply. I have ordered the parts required. Number 9 is what I thought as well, but that is what the lock bolts to, i.e. it is inside the tailgate, good job it was only a tenner. I have had to order the whole lock, not cheap! You can order one with a key cut to your chassis number, but that was over £200.00. I have ordered one that comes with a key already cut, a lot cheaper. The spare key will go in the glove box, just in case. But when was the last time you used the key in the tailgate. Not cheap, but it was offending my OCD.

Yes it can. Have done this on mine (not myself). For some reason I too didn't like the idea of having a different key yet never use it in the tailgate lock anyway :lol:
