Rear differential

Hi all,

I am looking for a rear diff for 07 E86. I had it in the garage due to an underlying issue and turns out I have 'back lash' which is meant to be common in BMW's. My rear diff is clicking when dropping gears and then accelerating. Doesn't affect my car but its rather annoying and doesn't sound too good. Apparently I need to send it off to a specialist for them to fix it which could be 400 - 500 quid.

Anyway if there's one going which matches my final drive ratio I'll take it.

Cheers.

Are you sure it is an actual back lash which I expect would be wear to the pinion and crown and not just the input flange that needs greasing as it is a common issue causing a clunk when going from positive to negative torque?

Hi pal,

Thanks for the reply. I will put this to the mechanic and see what he reckons as I have no idea.

So it could just be a case of applying grease to the input flange? Is this a simple jobbie?

Cheers.

I’m sure I read something on the forum about a place that will rebuild an E85/E86 diff for about £280 with a guarantee, if it does turn out to be more serious.

I’m sure it’ll be in the E85/E86 section of the forum somewhere
