Are the new style rear light clusters compatible with old style ones, will they just plug and play so to speak..??

just incase you are not aware but from what I have seen you would need a new bumper as well

Not sure about the electrics in them but physically they don't fit in the space, you need the facelift bumper too.
I remember reading somewhere that the difference in electrics will give you a bulb out warning light when in fact they are working.

There was a post on another Z4 forum, but I can't find the forum or link 8)

From memory.......

Mike is right, they don't fit without the new bumper, the light clusters also don't plug and play they have to be modified to take bulbs if you still want the bulb out detection to work...
