REAR BREAK PADS REPLACEMENT QUOTE

Hello

After 21k miles, my on-board computer is telling me that the break pads need replacing on my Z4 s28i m sport (14 plate) (assume that these are just the rear break pads, as I understand the front break pads are checked during a service, which I've recently had).

My nearest BMW service centre have charged a fortune to replace them.

Can anyone recommend somewhere close to North West London / South Herts that will replace the pads at a reasonable price?

Many thanks in advance

Hi, have they quoted you for discs as well as pads & how much was it for?
It sounds a little strange that they have only checked the pads on the front & not the rear during a service, id want to know why the worn parts were not mentioned prior to the car telling you itself :o

I think it's for discs + pads. The on board computer just says "break pads need replacing". The quoted price was £330 + VAT.
My service was a fair while ago so probably wasn't an issue then but a valid point you make.
Do you know anywhere I can go?
Thanks

There's one in Aylesbury, I can't think of his name but was recommended by someone on here. I will try and find out for you if that's not to far from you

Thanks - still a bit too far. Some more recommendations welcomed, near to Borehamwood or Brent Cross NW2. Cheers

I know its not that local but I use http://www.bartlett-auto.com/ at Huntingdon, no too far & a nice drive if you can get it booked in for a Saturday :driving:

If you're handy it's an easy job to do yourself and you can re set the display easily

...and the grammar police will be after you soon... it's 'Brake' not Break

You can do it without replacing the sensors if you are careful. You will have to take part of the calliper off to put the pads in. Prise the sensor out of the pad gently If you are doing all pads you will only have two one at the front and one at the back. Watch out for the small clip that holds the sensor in the pad. . It can be fiddly. My coding set itself after a few miles. You will need a set of alan [hex] keys.

I fitted new sensors, then just wrapped them up out of the way of the pads, so as not to have resetting problems in the future.
I will keep a eye on the pads manually.
