Really weird 'tin foil' rattle...

Hi all,

Here's a good one... It's been bugging me for a while...

I have a rattle that comes from the passenger side (rear I think). The best I can describe it as is a similar sound to some tin foil strips rattle against each other in the wind. It's inaudible when the roof is up. It doesn't sound like a 'heavy' rattle or like something big is moving around.

I've not had a wheel off, but I've looked under the car and everything seems quite solid (no loose heat-shields that I could see).

The car handles quite happily, indeed I took it on a track day last week (pictures to come) with no mishaps.

What are your thoughts?

So far on my list I have : something to do with the handbrake shoes moving around, or exhaust baffles....

Cheers

Have you checked rear disc guard as mine on front is starring to rattle so will need to sort.

Another idea to check, thanks...I need to jack the back up and have the wheel off I think. Or it may be something caught in the disc guard....

Had a similar problem, traced it to the rear break disc covers . If you can see them through the wheels , try giving them a slight push-away from the disk . If it moves easily then the metal is geting soft and its time to change them.
I also had one of the engine bay shields giving a similar noise, again a slight push sorted this out.
