Re-map next weekend

Just got an email reminder that i'm booked in to Evolve Motorsport up near Milton Keynes for a remap next weekend. Should be interesting, and they have a Dyno-Dynamics rolling road which means we can get some good before and after graphs...

They reckon I could see around 360bhp+ (i got 343bhp on their rollers back in November) from the map. Will get some video and post up the charts when done!

That will be very interesting. I have been considering a remap for some time now but not sure the gains would be worth it. How much is it costing if u dont mind me asking? I cant think of anything else to do to the M to squeeze out more power without getting stupid and bolting on a turbo/supercharger which I wont do!

Each to their own but I never understand remaps on high performance cars.

And it doesn't seem that much of an increase?

that is a large increase in power on a na car. it will be very noticeable too. my mate got it done to his m3 and it pulls stronger throughout the whole rev range + a few hundred rpm more too.
I was on the phone to them myself today about getting my 3.0Si done there. sound professional

I am getting a bit of a deal in return for them using the car for a some advertising, otherwise I probably wouldn't be too fussed about getting a map done yet.

They do seem quite confident that I'll notice the gains though - and every little bit helps. The mods so far seem to give me about 5bhp+ peak over standard Z4Ms that I've compared my car too, and much beefier lower-down torque figures. Another 15-20bhp won't be bad, especially if it gives an increase through the rev-range.

Another ASBO on its way for you then!

Dario :driving:

Jas, performance wise really only the Gruppe-M filter and a custom cat-back exhaust...

Dario, let's hope not! At least not until the last one runs out!

Interesting, I seem to remember both our cars making peak power at about 7000rpm and then tailing off at the SRR dyno, I should think there's a bit extra to be gained up there somewhere.

Does the remap take into account your exhaust and intake upgrades, or would it be applicable to all Z4Ms...and yes...I registered just so I could get in on this action

you can have a generic map or a custom map, obviously the custom ones cost more but are more beneficial as they take into account your modifications and according to what your engine seems to cope with they will do (although all engines are manufactured the same way the power varies depending on how they were run in and other factors).

I think you misunderstood my question, I want to know if the remap he's having done is based on something generic for all Z4Ms or if it's custom solely with his intake and exhaust mods in mind. Obviously they should customize it to his car and mods, but if there is a remap that produces gains on all Z4Ms from this tuner, I'd like to know about it...

Had the re-map done today. It's been developed on a standard Z4M with a cat-back exhaust. It wasn't developed on my car as such.

Having driven back from the RR, there is a definate increase in urgency between 3000 and 4500rpm that is very noticeable, and a kind of smooth responsiveness that wasn't there before. Power-wise, the peak gain was 5bhp on the runs, which was less than expected. However, my before and after RR runs were noticeably down on power from my last visit there. Comparing atmospheric conditions though, the humidity was much higher today and the atmospheric pressure substantially lower, which the operator believes could have a big bearing on the fact. Also, I think there may be a fuel issue too.

Before runs today were only peaking at around 327bhp. Considering I was at the same RR (along with some other Zeds) back in October, and ran several around (and peaking at) 343bhp, this was a surprise to me. Peak after the remap was 333bhp today.

I am going to run the car for a few days though, and fill up with different fuel also. It's a shame there wasn't another standard Zed there to do a comparison run with, as it would have shown whether the drop in power was applicable to the conditions or not. Each time i've been on a RR day with a standard Z4M, i've peaked 5bhp higher than the standard cars. In theory, this should now equate to 10bhp if the results from the map are correct.

I think I'll try to get along to another day soon with some more Z4Ms to do a comparison, but overall I'm quite happy with the improved feel of the car at the moment.

Will update in a few days though once I've run a few tanks through on the new map.

It would be interesting to see a standard curve overladed with the remapped curve.

It doesn't surprise me that peak gains are minimal;
But increased area between the curves lower in the power band could lead to the biggest performance improvements.

fantastic news, if it feels better im sure there's good figures to come.

if you need a standard M to come with you at some point, id be interested in the jaunt =)

Andy,

That'd be good. I'll see if I can get something organised with the guys up there, as since my car is the first Z4M they've applied this map to, they're just as interested as I am. Might be able to get a heavily discounted dyno run out of them...

Hey six...Kelleners seems to have gotten more from the engine than your guys...check it out. :)

Looks interesting! Would be good to have a shootout between the two cars at the same dyno, on the same day...

Having had such wildly varying figures on two different days at the same dyno, I'm more sceptical than before (and I was very sceptical!) about any dyno claims, which is why I hate it really when people ask what power differences I've got from the mods I've done on my car. The perceived power gains are there, but quantifying them is a tricky game IMO.

I do want to go back and get another dyno run on my car all the same though - especially if I can find someone that I've had a power run with before to give a comparison. I wasn't happy with the way the car was running before we did the new map that day... you could see there was something strange happening at the top-end of the power-run, as the graph "flat-lined" very early on compared with previous runs I've done before. I suspect dodgy fuel personally, but who knows. The dyno operator thought it might also be weather conditions.... :?
