rattling sounds

Driving through Newcastle on Saturday when I suddenly thought that the exhaust had come adrift, but that proved not to be the case. I had noticed slight tinkling noises from the rear end off side (I think) on the motorway earlier, but this loud metallic grating noise began suddenly after making a tight U turn in a cul-de-sac and driving slowly. I checked the rear discs but all seemed to be in order. I drove back 40 miles without any further occurrence, but I think I ought to get it checked out. Any ideas or suggestions?

It could have been a stone trapped between the disc and the plate. I've had this on another car and it scared the crap out of me. Reversing flushed it out.

The tinkling noise could have been a bit of spring falling off, and the scraping the rest of the spring settling - search for broken springs in problems - very common issue, not a biggie to sort if that's what it is.

happend to mine a few weeks ago, slight rattling noise from the rear wheel,

to diagnose it, drive slowly while applying the brakes, if the noise stops, them its either your brake pad clip or you brake pad is loose. fixed mine by removing the brake calliper and re assembling them like i was changing the brakes pads, realise the metal clip that slots into the calliper piston had come off and that was creating the noise
