Rattle...AARRGGHH!!

A rattle has started on my E89!

It seems to be coming from the rear parcel shelf area, just behind the passenger roll-hoop. It doesn't seem to correlate with going over bumps etc but just rattles randomly on a constant basis. It sounds like something keeps tapping the plastic of the shelf.

Anyone any ideas?

It really is annoying!! :x

Try where the rear deck sits on the plastic just behind the roll hoops.
If you raise the boot as though to stow the roof, near the flappy panels, BMW stuck on some felt. Replace this with some thicker stick on rubber or the wooly side of velcro.
I had this problem of the deck tapping against the lip it sits on.

Thanks, i'll give that a try.
Do you mean that I have to actually lower the roof part-way to get access or can it be done with the roof fully closed?

Rubber added at red arrows.

Also if you lift the seat belt trim at 'A', (just pulls off) the plastic underneath is loose at its attachments, so i applied a little silicon sealant to stop any rattles.

Also this morning might have found the source of another rattle, the warning triangle in boot. Yet to find if its the culprit or the boot trim its attached to.

Hi All

I had this exact problem with parcel shelf on my Z4 28i....

Followed the instructions by Flybobbie by putting a small piece of draft excluder rubber replacing the felt under the shelf as per pic.....After 500 KM run today, no more RATTLE...Thanks

Happy days.....beauty of this forum....now to tackle a small buzz in the roof console with lights and sos switch.....any suggestions...

Long shot - I had an annoying rattle from the same area... the wind deflector hadn't clicked in place properly and was rattling

This thread made me go out and check mine! LOL. Turns out almost all the original felt is missing! Oh well another job to do this week! Just got to find some suitable felt / rubber to stick there.

Oh dear the random rattling :headbang:

One of mine was caused by the seat being in the wrong position. Adjusting the seat fixed it... worth a check
