Rasping noise when accelerating....

When I am accelerating after changing gears and also when I start the car up I can hear a lots of rasping rattling noise from the rear.
I asked the garage to take a look while the car was in for something else.
I suspected it might be the exhaust but when he turned the car on the exhaust sounded ok at that time.
Anyone any ideas?

You checked for codes? What are they?

Sounds possibly physical - check heat barriers around exhaust. Could be cat too. Do you have a valved exhaust? Could be failed & rattling.

Possible something loose in the cat.

Exhaust touching heat shields or heat shields loose..FWIW..
