hey guys happy holiday
i was shopping online to get some great blackfriday specials , and saw radar detector.
i thought it was a stuff that i have to get it under the table , kinda shocked me.
anyways, does anyone have experience with this ??
does this really work ?
i see variety of products in wide price range . is it simply more expensive the better?

I have an Escort Passport 8500 X50. It's a few years old, but works pretty well for K-Band and Ka-Band. A radar detector is a tool, not a cloaking device. You can still get nailed easily if you're not paying attention. There are three factors in avoiding tickets (besides not speeding): a keen eye, a good radar detector, and Lady Luck.

This is a great site for general info on all radar detectors. Be aware that some speed cameras don't use radar. They use sensors in the road. Nothing will save you from those.

Its not illegal to buy them, just to use them,

I have never used one, but would think if you do a search on reviews of radar detectors, you will soon get a picture of which ones are good.

Different by country, for example the UK does not use Radar anymore and only laser (LTI 20-20 favourite weapon of choice).

Detection is sooooooo yesterday, prevention is the new method

hey m_six thanks for your link
did study alot and came down with Valentine One.
btw i read couple installation post that had this one receiver kind installed in onto the grille and manage to pull out a wires inside the car. which i thought it will give me such a hard time.

if i go one a ebay most of the places don't have all these wires and receivers.

i want to know what you did when you installed your Escort

thanks :)

how about a laser propark. its really a 'park distance control device' that somehow stops any laser ?

My Escort is just stuck to the windshield with suction cups. I move it from car to car. It's hard wired in my X5 with the power coming from the upper center console where the lights and UGDO are. In the Z4 or Wifey's Civic, I just use the power outlet.

Forgetting Gatso there aren't you!

Yes, the old Gatso uses radar (new ones don't), but you don't need a detector for those (GPS based system will do).

It is the mobile stuff you want to be protected from ...

Lrc100 neatly installed at the front. Only gone off once since installed nearly 2 years ago, there was a camera van but I wasn't speeding at time so no idea if it works.

Radar detectors in uk are a waste of time, they have already got you when it goes off I understand so better off with gps device that informs you of fixed and mobile sites as u approach.

Used to own a bell radar detector but got it full of water when I rolled an A3 many years ago!!

hesios, I've got a Valentine1 hard wired. Look at the photos of my car in my sig... you can see it to the left of the rearview mirror.

As far as Radar Detectors go, its the best money can buy and I wont go with anything else... It works for X, K, Ka, and Laser.

There's a blinder xtreme installed on one of the cars. It works like a charm and by the time my detector alerted me, the laser jammer had already turned on before anything else.

Invest in those. They work.

You can also put them on bikes too
