Quick wing mirror question

I noticed the other day that my driver side mirror was wobbling, I remembered skimming threw a few topics on here and it being a common problem.

I've just gone out and removed the glass which seemed stuck on surprisingly well considering the amount of wobbling it was doing!

I peeled the glass away from the thin black plate (heating pad?) - is this right?

The back of the mirror still has a fair bit of black stuff attached to it, I'm presuming I'll need to get this off to ensure a good bond when I stick it back on. Any suggestions on what to use?

Yes the black surface is the heating pad. The glue dries out or gets brittle after a few years. Just re stick the glass with a decent adhesive or double sided sticky pads and the heating element should continue to work. I would suggest you leave the existing adhesive if it can't be easily removed otherwise you could damage the heating element.

Hi there,

If you want to remove the whole of the mirror so you can inspect the motor here are some instructions,

1 - on the underside the mirror there is a black plastic cover, remove the little black screw and remove the plastic cover - (you may need to fold you mirror in)

2 - you will then be able to see inside the mirror unit, there is a round disc on the back on the glass, using a screw driver spin this piece of plastic and it will release the glass,

If there is something damaged inside you can them remove the motor with 3 screws to inspect everything.
