Quick vent/Rant... Why do people do it??

A real shame, if she's been trustworthy for the 2 years then maybe there is a story behind it, probably she's been convinced by someone else to do this and might not comprehend the hole she's got herself into now. In my view, end it the right way, don't blow up on her and make a scene, there is no value to you in doing that.

Let her go, say it's a shame and if she needed more money then she should have asked you first to see what could be done. She'll feel gutted and disappointed in herself more than vent anger at you.

Ranting and raving isn't my style, I'll just be telling her I know whats been happening, and I am disappointed, but cannot have her working for me any more.

I'd have the cops waiting for her to turn up.

Believe it or not, they aren't really that interested, and weren't even sure if she's committed a crime! It musn't be as clear cut as doing 36mph on an empty road in the middle of the night

That's why I had to get trading standards in, as apparently it's under their remit these days..

Ducklakeview Feeling your pain.

Wednesday we had some tenants do a moonlight, owing 3 months rent. Got starlight around to check the property over fully, as they had been obstructing us from doing an inspection on our recent visits. We were expecting the worst a that's exactly what we found. Animal faeces all over the carpets in the main bedroom. Walls in every room full of holes from shelves ripped out as they left. Brand new Bathroom trashed. etc So after getting the agent around to witness and document the damage, it was on with the gloves tonight a ripped out every single carpet in the house.

There are some right low life out there and we bump into them now and again, but life goes on mate. Property's all ready back on the market and I'm back around there tomorrow to start sorting the walls out.

If she was blatantly doing it with all the cameras around maybe she didnt think she was doing anything wrong and possibly in her head she might have thought you wouldnt mind.
I suppose on your part the only thing she was doing wrong was where she was doing it. If she had done it from her car or her home you probably wouldnt be that bothered.

I'll never understand why people do things like that.

I worked in the office at a self storage warehouse a few years back, and the boss told me he had sacked one of his staff in the past for stealing the cardboard boxes you use for moving house - he was the only member of staff at the time so inevitably got caught when the boss did a stock check. It seems he was flogging them at boot sales! Given boxes aren't expensive I doubt he made £100 - why would you? For all the time and effort he put into his illegal activity he could have earnt more for less effort doing some hours in a pub or on a check-out!

Anyway I hope all goes well tomorrow morning Mike.

Yes, THE problem is that she was abusing my trust by doing it from my shop, where if anyone found out the assumption would be that I was involved. Don't bite the hand that feeds you and all that..

Sorry you have to go through this, it is a real pain.

The other issue is 'Where is the dodgy baccy coming from?' She must have a source, and therefore be willing to bend the rules or has someone pushing her to do it.

I've been there a few times. Years ago I got plod to call into my office to pick up an employee, having given them a list of the serial numbers on the £20, £10 and £5 notes he had stolen and had on his person. He couldn't explain how I knew all the numbers of the notes he had, other than he had nicked them.

Good luck, but remember there is a chance that the source of the illicit product may bear a grudge (depending on the relationship to your staff member). Make sure cameras are working to catch a revenge incident.

[ref]Ducklakeview[/ref], You are underestimating the amount of cash she could be making selling bootleg cigs, she is probably selling more out of her home than when she is working. Well done catching her before it cost you your license/livelyhood.

Well that's dealt with. Not one of the nicest parts of being the boss..

She coughed to it though, and said she was just "doing him a favour" but said purchaser told me he has had it a few times from her..

Waterworks turned on etc. But all went as well as could be expected..
