Quick question on Xenons

My E86 has factory Xenons fitted, but they are always on. Is this normal? This is regardless of the position of the auto/off/on dial for the lights.

When going into a tunnel, the instrument lights come on registering the darker surroundings, suggesting that the light sensor is working. Should they always be on or do I have a problem here?

Possible problem. Might be possible that Carly has an option for 'dip-beam always on' and a previous owner has set this? By default they should only come on when the switch is in the on position, or the auto position and your driving in dark conditions.

Okay. When switching the lights to the on position, the side lights come on (angel eyes I think). Is it possible the wiring is mixed up? As you say could also be a programming issue!

Hi pal sounds like parabolica has it nailed will be set like that Carly gives you this option to use them as drl lights. 😉

As parabolica said this is probably a coding issue where someone has messed with the settings with Carly/ISTA/INPA etc. Wiring wise its relatively easy to check by removing the upper access panel in the wheel arches to see if they've been tampered with. Another possibility I guess is the light module has been replaced with the wrong one or coded badly or at some point the lights have been switched for halogens or even aftermarket jobbies. With that in mind it might be worth you posting pics of both your light module and headlights just to make sure you've got the right ones on the car etc.

All that said coding is probably the issue

Before fettling with any programming i'd check that there's not a relay with sticky contacts that feed power to the xenons permanently, regardless of what the light sensor dictates. Just a thought.
