Quick question about the Sound Generator

I'm going to replace my starter soon. To get to it I have to remove the sound generator tube. My question is, do I have to put it back?

How does it attach the the intake, will leaving it our affect anything? I don't really care for the sound it brings in but don't want to leave and hole in the intake obviously.

You can get a "rubber boot" that doesn't have the extra hole for the sound gen, and a grommet for the firewall. I'll try find the part

Hi, don't worry about leaving the sound generator disconnected as it doesn't leave an open whole-there's a membrane that transmits sound waves through the pipe, it doesn't connect directly to the manifold.
I took mine off for a quieter drive & found an aerosol lid that fitted over the end just to keep the dirt out, secured with a jubilee clip :thumbsup:

That's expensive though, you'll get it far cheaper from a BMW dealer

Goood stuff. You'll get a few quid for the complete sound gen kit and someone will bite your arm off!
