Question: Carbon badge mod?

Has anybody done a successful transplant on to an E89, with good quality black carbon emblems?

I've searched here and there does not seem to be a definitive answer for E89s.

By my rough measuring I think bonnet and side panels are 70mm and boot lid is 74-5mm??

Any insight gratefully received.

I have done this on my previous Z4 e89, but it was a bit of a hassle to be honest, I had to adapt every roundel to fit correctly. The pins on the back of the carbon roundels I had we're to short so it was a case glueing them on, the boot lid roundel I had to cut one of the pins off for it to fit properly and again glue it on. To get the badges off the front fenders remove the wheel then take the wheel arch cover away and feed your arm in with a 10 or 8 mm spanner, bit fiddly but..... Same for the front roundel, remove the cover at the front of the engine bay and put your hand in behind the badge and remove, glue on new roundel. For the boot lid just gently pull away, ( i'ts glued on) then fit new roundel. The fix method I used was no nails double sided tape, sticks like s**t to a blanket but to remove them just gently heat up with a heat gun or hair dryer and pull away. Bit of a faff but worth it IMHO. Good luck if you decide to go ahead with this mod. I will be doing this on my new 35is.

Yoiks - thanks for that. Maybe I'll give it a go when I've to some time to mess about

Can you recall where you got the new badges from? Fleebay seems awash with them but not clear on sizes/quality etc.

Got them from a seller at the BMW day at Gaydon last year, really good quality they were. But eBay have similar roundels, just make sure you get the correct sizes.

The badges are 70mm, I know this as I just needed to order them. Funnily enough, other BMWs use an 82mm badge. The only other type of BMW to use our size badge is actually a motor cycle which makes it a nightmare for picking up badges. Oh and if you need help with side rondels placement then PM me, I can give you advice

If you do fancy selling your badges them PM me, I would be interested in taking them off your hands
