Quantum Remap on E89 20i

Hi guys,

Just picked up my E89 Z4 20i (2012) yesterday, looking to get a stage 1 remap done on it but i'm told it's not an easy one to do by the guys at Quantum. They tell me it's because of the way the ECU is positioned/ locked down by BMW. Been quoted £500 so wanted to hear if anyone in here has had their map?

How significant does the jump from 180 to 260bhp feel behind the wheel?

Cheers, Alex

It feels substantial 8)
It's the torque that forces you back in the seat, it's increased by virtually 50%....
Ps, mine isn't a quantum map-I went to see Imran at evolve automotive

A rolling road session before & after any remap is a good idea, it lets you see where any gains are made and how much of an improvement over standard output has been achieved

Nice one, you had any problems with it at all? MPG suffer much?

99% certain I'm going for it. Will definitely do the dyno 8)

New arrival below :fuelfire:

If I don't boot it the mpg is unchanged, runs the same afr at cruise

180bhp - 260bhp... crazy from a remap!

Are the brakes/gearbox/clutch ok to handle the extra strain?

If so seems a bargain at £500!

It was nearly 280bhp not 260
The engine/gearbox/clutch are identical to the 28i model, so not under any more undue strain than its design limits

I believe the 28i has different pistons and compression ratio. possibly different injectors . This explains why I will be looking at 290+ hp when getting my 28i remapped tomorrow (hopefully).Front brakes also a bit bigger on 28i. I am a bit concerned myself with this engines strength.

These guys really pushed the engine beyond its limits though lol.

The link is stating 290 bhp at the wheels not flywheel

They had 350 hp at the wheel when they destroyed the engine.
My local tuner will be 290 ish hp at the crank. Nothing to do with the link. The link shows that some tuners consider the n20 engine to be quite fragile.

Well, I had my JB4 on for 3 yrs and running 308 Bhp 30K+ Miles - no issues - touch wood.

However, I have avoided going down the meth injection route

There is a place called Unicorn Motor Developmemts in Stockport that have a dyno rolling road and charge £400 to take the 20i up to 265bhp

Hi, You're mistaken about the engine differences-in the uk the n20 engines are identical, no differences whatsoever

Hmmm well my 28i has just mapped tp 303 hp with 378ft lbs torque. Why does the 28i map higher than the 20i If all components are the same?

Not 100% sure on this but the dme may be different & allow a higher level of tune, mechanically they are identical.
Some of it depends where you go & what they consider safe, some places have optimistic dynos as well.
What level did they tell you they could take a 20i to?
