Quaife vs Blackline LSD

Know this has been talked through before, but there seems to be a big difference in costs when you compare the Quaife (expensive) to the Blackline (not so expensive) LSD options for non-M E85/E86 cars.

What are the thoughts from those that have them fitted? After 7 months driving a 2.0 MX5 NC1 and previously owning both an M Coupe and M Roadster, I really can see the appeal driving a car with a LSD. I reckon the more manageable power of my 3.0 with one would be pretty much perfect as the MX5 was an absolute blast.

I had my Quaife installed in 2015 - been very happy with it.

Great read, Perry
So you’d recommend the Birds installed Quaife then!
I've been happy with it but, from their comments, others have been happy with the LSDs they've installed. It appears that whatever LSD you get, it's going to be much better than the standard open diff.

I'd think about how long you're going to keep the car and spend accordingly

I’ve now had two Quaife LSDs in my E89s..first in a 20i at 304 BHP and 450nm torque and second in my 35is now at 400 BHP and 650nm torque..

If you are into pressing on in a mixture of weather and road conditions they are arguably one of the best mods you can do…

But they are pricey…I understand the M factory version is technically very similar and a bit cheaper..but not as cheap as the Blackline which seems to be another variant…I’ll avoid the word copy..

I can imagine an LSD enabled 35is is a lot of fun!
The Quaife one on Birds website looks to be around £1500 fitted for a non-M E85.

I think on the 35 it ended up close to £1,800 plus I had to find a donor diff as I didn’t want to take off the fitted diff and then wait for its return..

On the 35i they have to machine the crown wheel off to fit the LSD , on the N20 the diff crown was bolted on..

Beyond my pay grade to do this at home…

At 400 BHP and 650 nm at 3,500 rpm you need all the help you can get…now you can prod the throttle without either heading for the hedge or having a massive engine shutdown as it cuts the power to save you.. :driving:

Jeez. At £2k fitted, that's almost 50% of the price of the car over again.

I'm planning to run the car on track, so it seems like a no-brainer.

For the track some people argue that a plated LSD is a better choice as it’s alleged that rear wheel lifting is common and hence a torque sensing diff is compromised….

On the road where these events don’t happen it’s just seamlessly fabulous…
