Pushing £50k for a Honda Civic - what would you buy instead?

I’ve owned plenty of fast Honda’s in the past, started with a warm civic Esi, then a series of Vti’s, followed by an integra Type R, an S2000 and a few Civic type R’s (Bread van EP3). This was in my late 20’s onwards.

They were brilliant in many ways, I never had a single mechanical problem with any of them; They all had soft paint, limited low down torque and poor sound insulation…. But they were fun and, typically, well priced compared to the competition.

The latest Civic type R is closing in on £50k :o

I’m sure it’s a monster, and the reviews suggest it’s much more refined than fast Hondas of old… but £50K FFS!

What would you buy second hand for £50k instead?

£50k for a Honda  or a V8 Bmw ?

Half a Range Rover? (And comprehensive breakdown cover)! :D

You could minimise your risk only buy the back half as you don’t bloody drive them anyway so don’t need all the unreliable, expensive stuff up front :poke:

I’m with Mr W, that M8 is a weapon. There was a grey one when we went to look at the M40i, it was touching £100k iirc

I was joking; I wouldn't have a RR if it was free. One in our local LR dealership, pre-registered, for only £229,000! :o

I do like the 8 series too! :)

Along with, an M6, Corbra, LHD Alpha’s, Jap Imports, various motorbikes, 440i’s Z4’s to name a few
Yep!
Started looking at 8 series then found the first gen E31s. Forgot all about them. I like them too! :D

Jaguar F-Type, second hand, possibly even the 2.0 4-pot (don’t shoot me!!) then use the remaining £15k to buy an old estate (for the dogs, which is still a plan) and a holiday to the Maldives 😎

As usual an AML choice from me.

There can't be many 200mph cars with such breading for 50k. 8)

I’d wager the Civic Type R is a more involving drive that the M8, which lets be honest, almost has the same proportions as a small bus :D
and cheaper to run
and insure
and more practical
easier to live with

I'd have a Z4MC for fun and a Maserati Quattroporte as a daily - with a petrol/bork-fund hopefully!

As a new car, there's probably not much you can get for 50k that would be more fun than a civic... but... second hand... a whole world of ridiculous fun out there. Z4 35is or Z4M plus low mileage S4 Avant? That's one hell of a 2 car garage for all the family.

V8 Quattroporte is a seriously tempting alternative to my Focus. That this is a ticket price comparison is in itself crazy.

Honda Civic or….
